5. Shabbat in Israel

The custom:

You will hardly be allowed to use your cellphone during the Shabbat. No texting, no emailing and no posting photos on Facebook or Instagram allowed! The Shabbat (aka Sabbath) is a Jewish tradition. It has been kept for centuries. Why is this custom so special? Well, in the Torah it is written that the seventh day of the week should be dedicated to God. People must not work on that day. Rather, families gather and spend the day together. As a rule, the Shabbat starts late Friday night and lasts up to late Sunday night.

The lesson:

The Sabbath is a wonderful period of time when each family member can communicate with the rest without various distractions and interruptions. This is what we call quality time and no social media should ever replace these precious moments. Forget cyberspace and all modern gadgets for a while and enjoy the company of the ones you love and appreciate.
