5. Penitentes
Have you ever seen the Procession of Penance held in Spain at Easter? That’s an event when people called penitents march through the streets. You can recognize them by their long robes and conical hats. The same name was given to the phenomenon occurring at high altitudes. These snow formations are tall and resemble penitents decked in their traditional robes. Penitents are commonly seen in the Andes.

It is really weird that it can rain fish! In Honduras you can experience this unusual phenomenon. Yoro is a small town that became famous thanks to the rain of fish. In Spanish this kind of rain is called ‘aguacero de pescado’. People from different countries come to the town to observe the rain. It attracts both tourists and scientists. The locals celebrate the event and organize a special holiday. Scientists have been trying to explain the phenomenon, but there might be several theories. The locals believe that the rain of fish is a gift sent to them from God and refuse to listen to those who claim that this phenomenon is natural.
