5. Quinta da Boa Vista
Sao Cristovao takes pride in its imperial palaces, villas and gardens. Now they are open for the public. One of the most prominent attractions is Quinta da Boa Vista. Between 1808 and 1889 it was the royal residence. Later it was transformed into the Palacio de Sao Cristovao. Now it accommodates the National Museum with the largest archaeology, ethnographic, botanical and zoological collections in Brazil. The park is huge – it is full of gardens, lakes, caves and woodlands. The miniature railway will take you to the zoo housing over 2,000 species of reptiles, birds and mammals from all over the world.
