Next time you visit Turkey go and see the oldest archaeological site in the world named Gobekli tepe. The place was found by archeologists during the expedition. Now we know that it was created over 10,000 years ago by people who lived in the Stone Age. It demonstrates their outstanding artistic skills and talents. Ancestors used limestone to produce the pillars. There’re around 200 of them and most weight between 15 and 22 tons. The construction includes huge blocks of rocks. 4. Moai Statues, Easter Island
Easter Islands is famous for its 288 moai statues. That’s one of the most enigmatic archaeological discoveries ever made. The mystery that surrounds the site and the statues attracts scientists and tourists who are willing to see the monument and try to understand their mission. It’s said that the statues were created by Rapa Nui, ancient people who lived in that part of the world between 1300 to 1500 A.D. Moai statues are situated in various massive stone platforms. On average, each of the monuments is 80 tons and 13 feet tall. The ancient people used huge rocks formed from the dead volcano and carved the statues. The base of the statues has a “D” shape which allowed people to transport them side by side by means of strong cords and ropes.
5. Great Pyramids
The greatest ancient structures ever created on the planet are the Great Pyramids. Various pyramids were created by many different civilizations. However, the Egyptian pyramids have been included in the list of the world’s greatest wonders. The structures were started to be built in 2700 BC. What we know nowadays is that the pyramids were designed as tombs for preserving rulers’ bodies. The oldest and tallest pyramid one can see in Egypt is the Great pyramid of Giza. It’s over 480 feet tall. It took around 20 years to create it. Millions of lime stones were used to create the monument. The inside of the pyramids is not less interesting – there scientist have found mummies and valuable treasures. Additionally, the walls of pyramids are carved and give great details about how people lived in those times.
