Vegans can follow their diet even while travelling. If you are planning on a spending 8 or more hours on the road, you might find the following three tips of great use.
Try them out and see how effective and useful they are for a person who wants to keep vegan on a trip.
1. Preparation is Essential
Get ready for the trip. It is important to know what you are taking with you. Pack your favorite healthy snacks that do not need any special preparation. The best food in this case is nuts, seeds or fried fruits. Take some fresh fruits, too. Peaches, bananas, apples or figs will keep you satisfied. Eat them before they ripen, though!
2. Local Markets Provide Great Options
In summer you can stop at local farmers’ markets. There are plenty of them on the roadside. This is where you can buy fresh vegetables and fruits. Snack on peppers and carrots. You will love them with some hummus and salsa. Fiber is important, especially if you sit and drive your car most of the time.
3. Stay Hydrated and Eat Small Meals
Eat frequently but in smaller portions. If a person sits in his car all day, he does not really need huge meals. Give preference to light snacks – they will charge you with energy without making you feel heavy. Also, drink enough fresh water. You can also drink green, black or herbal tea. Remember to take breaks and stretch out your legs and arms.
