In North America they have a special event – the well-known parade that is held on Thanksgiving Day. It is extremely popular over there and those who cannot attend the event usually watch it on TV. Every year more than 3 million citizens enjoy the show in New York City. It all started in 1924. That’s how Macy’s workers wanted to welcome Christmas period. On that day the employees wore various costumes like clowns, knights and cowboys. The parade started in Harlem and finished in Herald’s Square. The event was amazing – lots of people, music, fun and even animals.

We now know that the major event of this celebration is football. On Thanksgiving there is hardly any other entertainment that would be watched by so many people at the same time. This tradition started in 1934. The match was arranged between the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions. The former team was then the world’s champion. In general, the game was a great success. Since then people in the United States have watched the game during Thanksgiving. There were no football matches between 1939 and 1944 due to the Second World War.
