However, if you want to increase the amount of vitamin D that gets into your body, you should eat mackerel, swordfish and salmon. You may also consume sardines and tuna, too. Much less vitamin D can be found in beef liver, egg yolk, milk and cereal. It’s known that there is no added vitamin D in ice cream and cheese.
4. Signs of vitamin D Deficiency
Symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are not obviously seen. In some cases individuals who have low levels of vitamin D in their blood have soft and brittle bones. They sometimes diagnosed with osteomalacia. As a rule, this problem is accompanied by weak muscles and bone pain. In kids, vitamin D deficiency leads to rickets and various skeletal problems.
5. Daily Vitamin D for Breastfed Babies
There is not too much vitamin D found in breast milk. On average, a daily dose of 400 IU of vitamin D is necessary for a baby to grow healthy. Babies who are one year or older can drink fortified milk in which case they will no longer need any supplement containing vitamin D. Too much vitamin D is not advised since it may cause vomiting, nausea, muscle aches, thirst and loss of appetite.
