4. Microwave Popcorn

Diacetyl is a chemical that is used to produce artificial flavor of fresh butter in popcorn. This element causes serious lung disease. It is also called “popcorn lung” – the disease that is typical of people working in popcorn factories. More than a decade ago this chemical was replaced with 2,3 pentanedione. This did not solve the issue, since the alternative caused breathing problems. Nevertheless, it is still used in various butter-flavored products.

Do the following: Read labels and avoid products that contain artificial flavorings. Besides popcorn you can find candies that contain pentanedione. Eat regular popcorn and add your own spices to make your food smell tasty.
