Staying in the sun for hours is unhealthy. We spend hundreds of dollars on skin care products containing sunscreen. However, some sunlight is absolutely necessary.
1. Exposure to Sunshine Decreases Blood Pressure
Exposure to the sun is said to be able to help us lower blood pressure. Scientists have finally found out why. Researches have revealed that skin produces nitric oxide. When the skin is exposed to sunlight, our blood vessels widen. This helps deliver nitric oxide to the blood. That’s exactly what decreases blood pressure. You are less prone to heart risk if your blood pressure is lower. Moderate and balanced sun exposure is beneficial. Nevertheless, if you avoid sunlight or regularly use sunscreen, you won’t allow the process go smoothly hence you increase the risk of heart disease.
2. Sunlight Decreases Cholesterol
Whenever the body requires hormone precursors and cannot find them, it sends signals to the liver. The latter starts producing more cholesterol. However, this process leads to issues since the cholesterol produced is not converted to the precursors as it should simply because the person does not receive enough sunlight. The sun is capable of transforming the cholesterol on the surface of the skin into hormone precursors. Experts believe that a lack of sunlight causes a lack of cholesterol conversion. Less sunlight equals high cholesterol levels!
