3. Escadaria Selarón
Thanks to Jorge Selarón nowadays Rio has a new tourist attraction. It was created in 1990 by the artist and presently draws attention of many people. The creator died in 2013, but till his death he covered a long flight of steps facing his house using colorful pottery, tiles and mirrors. The mosaic represents all colors of the Brazilian flag. It all started when Selarón first used broken tiles taken from demolitions of old buildings and construction sites. People loved the idea and helped the artist by bringing him tiles and pottery from all around the globe. The famous 250 steps have pieces from over sixty countries. Being a popular film spot, the steps were once recorded in Rio's 2016 Olympic video.
